how to make banana nice cream

If you haven’t tried banana nice cream yet you’re in for a real treat! Literally 🙂 All you need are frozen bananas to make this deliciously creamy frozen dessert with a texture similar to ice cream. In fact, it’s often called banana soft serve.

And bananas are just the base! You can easily add things like peanut butter, chocolate chips, other fruit and more to customize it to your liking.

How To Make Banana Nice Cream Step By Step

To make banana nice cream, here’s what you do:

  • Peel and chop or slice bananas. We slice ours pretty small because they freeze quicker and they also blend easier.
  • Place on a plate or sheet pan in a single layer and freeze for several hours.
  • Once frozen, take them out and let them thaw for 5-10 minutes.
  • Place in a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. You can add a splash of milk if you want to make it blend a little easier.
  • Add your favorite toppings and serve.

Banana Nice Cream FAQs

Why is it called nice cream?

Nice cream originally started as a vegan dessert- a vegan substitute for ice cream. The “nice” part is a combination of the words “not and ice”, like ice cream but not ice cream- nice cream.

Is nice cream good for breakfast?

It can be! Since there’s no added sugar, it’s basically just another way to eat fruit and works for any meal of the day. I love adding peanut butter to give it a little more staying power.

Just keep portion size in mind since you’ve blended up a lot of bananas and although they’re a fruit and have some nutrients, they do also contain a fair amount of *naturally occurring* sugar.

I would recommend pairing your nice cream with a source of protein, healthy fats or fiber to help make a more filling meal or snack.

What are the best banana soft-serve recipes?

We’ve shown you the basic banana nice cream recipe but there are endless ways you can make new flavors. There are some great ideas in this post with different flavor combinations.

Can you make banana soft serve in a blender?

Yes, just keep in mind you might need a little more liquid (milk) than you would if you were using a food processor.

If you have more bananas to use up, try these recipes:

  • Frozen Peanut Butter Bananas
  • Greek Yogurt Banana Bread
  • Banana Lentil Muffins

Enjoy!
