How to core an apple
There are a lot of useless kitchen gadgets out there and I tend to avoid buying gadgets that really only have one single use, but an apple corer is an exception of mine. You can get one for about $5 and they come in really handy for snacks like this!
To core an apple, all you need to do is place the apple corer over the stem and push it so it goes all the way through the apple. Then pull out to remove the entire core and you can slice into rings.
How to make apple donuts step by step
To make apple donuts, here’s what you do:
- Use the apple corer to remove the core of the apple.
- Slice apple into rings.
- Top with peanut butter. If you don’t like peanut butter you could top with yogurt!
- Add other toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, hemp or chia seeds.
- Enjoy!

FAQs about apple donuts
Are apple donuts a healthy snack?
Yes! Pairing fruit with a healthy fat like peanut butter or a protein like yogurt helps give it more staying power. This is a balanced snack that will help keep kids full until their next meal.
Can I use another fruit?
I think it would be super fun to try this with pears as well! You could use the apple corer on the pear and then follow the same steps. I love pears with peanut butter!
What if i don’t have an apple corer?
You can still make apple donuts without an apple corer. Slice your apple into rings and then use the tip of a sharp knife to cut a circle in the middle around the core to remove it. This might take some adult help for younger kids!
